A trekker's paradise with four magnificent ranges of the Atlas mountains, Morocco also harbours the urban adventures of Fes and Marrakesh, cities that entrance the soul with their serpentine alleyways and arabesque skylines.
Morocco is in many ways a country apart. It nestles on the north-western tip of Africa, separated from the rest of the continent by the towering Atlas Mountains and by the Sahara itself. Its climate, geography, and history are all more closely related to the Mediterranean than to the rest of Africa, and for this reason visitors are often struck by the odd sensation of having not quite reached Africa in Morocco. In the north, its fine beaches, lush highland valleys, and evocative old cities reinforce this impression. Yet, as one moves south and east, into and over the starkly beautiful ranges of the Atlases, Morocco's Mediterranean character melts away like a mirage. The Sahara stretches out to the horizon, and forbidding casbah stare.

- As a predominantly Muslim country, Morocco is not dry. Alcohol is available in restaurants, liquor stores, bars, supermarkets, clubs, hotels and discos.
- Moroccan cuisine is often reputed to be some of the best in the world, with countless dishes and variations proudly bearing the country's colonial and Arabic influences.
- Remember that bargaining in the souks (local markets) is expected. Bargaining is an enjoyable experience for most vendors and they prefer clients that don't appear hurried and are willing to take the time to negotiate. It is most often actually necessary to give reasons why you believe the price should be lower. The reasons you might give are limited only by your imagination and often lead to some very entertaining discussions.
- The voltage in Morocco is generally 230 V, and outlets will fit the two-pin plug known as the Europlug.
