Country: Mauritania - Senegal Character: day off
Nous sommes arrivés au Lac Rose! Yes! We have made it to the finish line in Dakar, on the shores of the mythical Lac Rose, the dream destination of every Dakarino. The final timed stage provided plenty of room for last minute heroic efforts to alter the overall standings by crossing twice the giant sandbox known locally as the Lompoul Desert and finishing with a 100 km long sprint down a beach to the finish line. But ultimately not much has changed and all the race leaders maintained positions. The overall and motorbike class leader remains Antonio Valero ahead of Sergio Anguiano and today's winner Juan Campdera. The Aussie Benjamin Cumming is ranked 4th. In the 5th place overall we have the car class winner Speed Company who added another 15 minutes to their slim lead over rally veterans from the Wings team. Juan Barredo and Michael Miggitsch placed 6th and 7th respectively, sandwiched between the two cars in the overall standings. The top 10 is closed out by the two Motorauto Almeria UTVs who did an outstanding job keeping their vehicles running over the course that often favoured raw horsepower over agility.
And thus the 3 year long Victor Rivera era comes to an end and tomorrow we will crown a new champion. Tomorrow's stage is a short jaunt to the beach followed by a raucous celebration. The efforts put forth by all the teams were truly inspirational and we congratulate to all the finishers on accomplishing this journey and fulfilling lifelong dreams.
