A 670 km long endurance test, stage 4 was truly epic and the stuff legends are made of! You'd be hard to find another event requiring this much determination, endurance and self reliance. As we near 4 AM the org team is assisting last 2 riders whose bikes suffered mechanical failures and who had to request assistance. They should be loaded up shortly and on their way to a warm sleeping bag.
The rally is in one of the most remote regions of Southern Morocco and communications are spotty. In December this area was inundated by flash floods which in places turned the normally rock hard desert into mud traps.
The stage victory goes to the Danish crew Bertelsen/Mortensen in their bright yellow Desert Warrior. In second place and narrowly winning the bike class was Victor Rivera. First UTV was Dusan Randysek in 11th place overall. Surprisingly despite the difficult navigation, unpredictable terrain and the exhaustingly long special, after 5 hours of full on racing, the top 8 finishers arrived within 2 minutes of the winner.
